Harrison Ingram

Overview:

Harrison Ingram is an elite passing hybrid wing.  Ingram is a high IQ elite playmaker with a variety of high level passes in his repertoire.  Ingram is also a highly inefficient shooter that will need to elevate his shooting if he is to be a viable NBA player.  2022-23 will be Ingram’s sophomore season for the Stanford Cardinal.

NBA skill:  Playing making

Offense:

Harrison Ingram is a playmaking hybrid wing that can play point forward.  Ingram is a high IQ player who knows how to manipulate defenses. He makes high level plays with great vision, anticipation and no lock passes. His passing set up holds help side defenders which gives the shooter a little more time to get their shot off. Many of his assists are penetration kick outs.

Ingram is not a shot creator and can lack purpose when he probes the floor which leads to escape passes to reset the offense. Further, as a Pick and Roll Hander 30% of the time where he posted a Below Average .5 Points Per Play.  This low Points Per Play is dependent on team mates converting and Ingram’s average perimeter shooting. Ingram is a below the rim finisher who can struggle with elite length or athleticism.  32% of his shots were At the Rim where his .98 PPP was Below Average.

Ingram’s shooting stroke is often off balance where he leans going right to left.  He also brings the ball up his left side to get to his shot pocket.  His shooting mechanics will definitely need to be reworked.  It is seen in his pull ups, 3 point shots (31%)  and especially his free throws (66%).

.

Ingram is a competitor and has played on the US U19 team.  But his movements on the court signal he is used to being the biggest most athletic player on the court.  Thus, he has yet to develop soft touch finishes, a reliable floater/runner or extension shots

Ingram is very comfortable with the ball and although he likely isn’t a secondary ball handler he should be put in position to make plays for others; in transition, coming off advantage matchups where he can use his size.  Viability as an NBA player hinges on Ingrams ability to spread the floor and make perimeter shots.  Without that he may not get the opportunity to show his elite talent as a playmaker.

Wanna sees:

Increase in 3 point shooting efficiency

Increase in free through efficiency

Develop soft touch finishes

Assists and Decision Making

Ingrams shines in Transition as a ball handler.  He has an aray of lock offs, drive and kick, and dump offs that contribute to his stellar 3.0 AST and 20.3% ASTr.  It suggests that a more refined roll could squeeze more production out of Ingrams playmaking.  Unfortunately, bad spacing, indecision and inefficient teammates contributes to Ingram’s low Pick and Roll Handler numbers of .5 PPP which is Below Average.  Turnovers are in line with Guards.  Overall, once Ingram gains more experience in probing defenses he will be more successful creating plays for teammates.

Wanna sees:

More patience probing opportunities

Early avoidance of clogged driving lanes

Improve shot creation off the dribble

Rebounding and defense

Ingram is a solid rebounder who consistently crashes the boards.  While he doesn’t get any spectacular tip dunks off misses.  Ingram uses his size very well to mix it up and get tough rebounds.

Defensively, Ingram’s average athleticism does get the steal or blocks previously drafted NBA wings got in their last year of college.  With his high level anticipation, needed for making plays for teammates, Ingram should get more steals and even more blocks.  Ingram got only 8 blocks during the entire 2021-22 season.  To be a viable wing in the NBA, he has to do much better than that.

Wanna sees:

More steals.  At least 1.5 per game

More blocks. At least 1.5 per game.

Tier of 2023 draft prediction:  Return for junior year.
